A federal grand jury has indicted Juan E. Acosta Gomez, a 21-year-old Dominican national living in Providence, on charges of receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM), according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.

Authorities allege that in October 2025, the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force received a report about disturbing CSAM images being uploaded to devices linked to Acosta Gomez. Federal agents executed a search warrant at his residence on November 4, 2025. Investigators reportedly found numerous CSAM images and videos on his personal devices.

Acosta Gomez is currently detained and will appear in federal court at a date yet to be determined.

“A federal criminal indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty,” stated the release.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John P. McAdams and was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) along with the Rhode Island ICAC Task Force.

This prosecution falls under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Department of Justice’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section aimed at combating child sexual exploitation. The program coordinates resources from federal, state, and local agencies to locate offenders and assist victims. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at https://www.justice.gov/psc
