A Dominican national residing in Providence pleaded guilty on Mar. 23 to several federal fraud offenses, according to United States Attorney Charles C. Calenda.

William Jose Alejandro Arias Amador, age 45, admitted guilt in U.S. District Court to charges including false representation of a Social Security number, health care fraud, and wire fraud. Arias Amador was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 3, 2025. He is scheduled for sentencing on July 8.

Court documents show that Arias Amador used the identity and Social Security number of a United States citizen when applying for Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dulce Donovan. The investigation involved multiple agencies: the Office of Inspector General from the United States Department of Agriculture; Department of Health and Human Services; Department of Labor; Social Security Administration; and the Department of Homeland Security.

Arias Amador’s sentence will be determined by a federal district judge after consideration of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
