Four Eastern Connecticut Softball Players Named All-Americans by NFCA

Little East Conference recently issued the following announcement.

2022 Little East Conference (LEC) regular season and tournament champion Eastern Connecticut State University had four players garner All-America honors for the 2022 season, it was announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Tuesday. The Warriors’ four overall selections and three First Team picks led all programs in NCAA Division III this season.
Eastern’s First Team recipients are first baseman Brooke Matyasovsky, third baseman Julia SanGiovanni and pitcher Alexis Michon, who earned one of the five First Team at-large spots. Matyasovsky was named a First Team All-American for the second consecutive season, while Michon and SanGiovanni earned all-America honors for the first time in their collegiate careers. Outfielder Cassie Woods was named a Second Team All-American for the second time in as many years.
Matyasovsky is batting .390 this season with 62 hits, 17 doubles, 16 homers , 61 RBI and 35 runs scored. She leads the team in home runs, RBI, slugging (.811) and OPS (1.249). The 2021 LEC Player of the Year earned First Team All-LEC  for the third time in 2022, in addition to being named First Team NFCA All-Region the second straight season. Matyasovsky was named the 2022 LEC Championship Tournament Most Outstanding Player after helping lead the Warriors to their third consecutive league title.
The reigning LEC Pitcher of the Year, Michon enters the College World Series with a 23-1 record, 0.93 ERA and 189 strikeouts over her 143.2 innings. She was named a First Team All-LEC selection this season, her first at Eastern, and was named the 2022 NCAA Super Regional Most Outstanding Pitcher after going 2-0 with 14 scoreless innings of work last weekend as the Warriors swept No. 16 Randolph-Macon.
The reigning LEC Player of the Year, SanGiovanni is batting .412 with 56 hits, 19 doubles, seven homers, 42 RBI and 26 runs scored this season. She leads the team in doubles, and ranks second in home runs, RBI, on-base percentage (.512), slugging (.706) and OPS (1.218).
Woods, who was named First Team All-LEC and First Team NFCA All-Region for the second consecutive year,  leads the Warriors with a .486 batting average, 71 hits, 55 runs scored, 24 stolen bases and .560 on-base percentage. Her 1.128 OPS is third best on the team.
Eastern (43-5) opens in its 15th NCAA Division III national tournament as the No. 3 seed facing No. 6 Trine University Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Salem, Virginia. The other half of Bracket 2’s four-team, double-elimination bracket will feature No. 2 Salisbury versus No. 7 Millikin University, which square of Thursday at 4 p.m. The two bracket winners will play a best-of-three series for the national title starting Monday.
