Lanes on a section of I-95 in Providence will be narrowed starting Friday, June 27, 2025, as part of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation’s (RIDOT) I-95 15 Bridges Project. The changes will affect both northbound and southbound lanes between approximately 1,500 feet north of the Elmwood Avenue exit (33B) and the existing work zone at the Elmwood Avenue Bridge. Lanes will be reduced to 11 feet and shifted slightly to the left.

The number of lanes will remain unchanged, and no exits will be closed during this operation. This new lane configuration is expected to last until at least the end of the year. Travelers are advised to slow down while adjusting to the new pattern.

Additionally, Melrose Street at Cadillac Drive in Providence will close for about six weeks starting June 23. The I-95 15 Bridges design-build project is RIDOT’s largest undertaking and aims to remove 15 bridges from a backlog of structures in poor or nearly poor condition along I-95 and Route 10 between Providence and Warwick—a corridor that accommodates 185,000 vehicles daily.
