On February 27, 2023, the Statewide Grand Jury returned a secret indictment charging Julian John with one count of first degree sexual assault.

The alleged act occurred in the city of Newport sometime on December 5, 2021. The Newport Police Department conducted the investigation.

On March 7, 2022, the secret indictment was unsealed, and the defendant was arraigned in Newport County Superior Court. The defendant is scheduled for a pretrial conference in Newport County Superior Court on May 12, 2023.
