A Maine resident, Evert Delgado-Menjivar, 31, has been charged with trafficking multiple kilograms of cocaine into Rhode Island. Delgado-Menjivar appeared in federal court in Providence on November 18, 2025, where he was arraigned following an indictment by a Grand Jury. He remains in detention, according to Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.
Delgado-Menjivar was arrested at his home in Westbrook, Maine on September 9, 2025. The indictment includes charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and distribution of cocaine. He also faces two counts related to the distribution of at least 500 grams of cocaine.
According to court documents, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) began investigating in July 2025 after learning about an individual seeking to sell multi-kilogram quantities of cocaine. In August 2025, a co-defendant allegedly distributed kilogram amounts of cocaine on behalf of Delgado-Menjivar.
“A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” stated officials.
Sentencing will be determined by a federal district judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors if there is a conviction.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stacey A. Erickson is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the DEA.
The prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America—a national initiative led by the Department of Justice that coordinates resources from Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhoods to address illegal immigration and combat transnational criminal organizations.
