The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will temporarily close the Maple Valley Road Bridge in Coventry starting Monday morning, July 7. The closure is part of a project to replace the bridge using accelerated construction methods, with plans to reopen it by the end of this year.

The closure affects only the section of Maple Valley Road between Route 117 (Flat River Road) and Town Farm Road in central Coventry. Local traffic will still be allowed on either side of the closed bridge. RIDOT has set up detour routes, directing westbound traffic via Franklin Road and eastbound traffic via Town Farm Road. A map of the detour is available at www.ridot.net/DetourMaps.

This bridge replacement is included in a $12.9 million project that also involves replacing two other structurally deficient bridges on Cahoone Road and Nicholas Road in western Coventry. While the Maple Valley Road Bridge is expected to reopen by year’s end, the entire project is scheduled for completion in spring 2027.

RIDOT notes that construction schedules may change due to various factors such as weather or unforeseen circumstances. The replacement work is funded through RhodeWorks, an initiative aimed at improving Rhode Island’s infrastructure while considering environmental impacts.
