A Providence resident with prior convictions on firearm, robbery, and drug trafficking charges has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of felon in possession of a firearm. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.
According to court information, Troy L. Antley, 56, was stopped by Providence Police on March 30, 2024, after failing to signal at an intersection. During the stop, an officer observed a knife in plain view on the driver’s seat. When the officer moved to secure the knife, he also saw a round of ammunition in the cupholder and noticed a gun handle sticking out from between the driver’s seat and center console.
Authorities later determined that the weapon was a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol reported stolen from Alabama. The firearm’s magazine could hold 16 rounds and contained 14 rounds at the time; one additional round was chambered in the pistol.
Antley had previously been convicted on state firearm, robbery, and drug trafficking charges as well as a 2013 federal firearm charge.
Sentencing is set for November 20, 2025. A federal district judge will determine Antley’s sentence based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom stated: “A Providence man previously convicted and sentenced on state firearm, robbery, and drug trafficking charges, and a 2013 federal firearm charge, pleaded guilty today to a federal charge of felon in possession of a firearm.”
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stacey A. Erickson and Milind M. Shah are prosecuting the case.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearm, and Explosives worked alongside the Providence Police Department during their investigation into this matter.
