The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management announced on April 6 that three state campgrounds—Charlestown Breachway, Fishermen’s Memorial, and George Washington Memorial—will open for the season on Friday, April 10. The openings coincide with spring school vacation and trout fishing season, offering families opportunities to spend time outdoors. East Beach State Campground is scheduled to open later, on May 22.
The annual campground openings are significant for local residents seeking recreational activities during the spring months. These sites provide options for tent and RV camping as well as family-friendly amenities.
Burlingame State Campground will remain closed until later in May due to ongoing work on its showers and restrooms modernization project. The release of reservations at Burlingame will be delayed until this work is completed. The department said it appreciates campers’ patience while improvements are made and encourages visitors to check the project webpage for updates.
Campers at Fishermen’s Memorial, George Washington, and Burlingame State Campgrounds can use a pre-check-in system after booking through Reserve America. By completing pre-registration at least two days before arrival, guests can speed up their check-in process. A second car pass may also be added up to one day in advance.
Fishermen’s Memorial in Narragansett offers a range of activities including basketball, tennis, horseshoes, a playground, and access to a weekly farmers market from May through October. It is located near several state beaches and close to the Block Island ferry.
