The Rhode Island College women’s basketball team is receiving votes for the first time this season in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Coaches’ Poll after securing its third consecutive Little East Conference (LEC) tournament title last week, and with it the league’s automatic berth in the upcoming NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

The Anchorwomen enter the NCAA tournament with an overall record of 24-3 after defeating top-seeded Eastern Connecticut State University in the LEC tournament final, 61-52. RIC advanced to the LEC title game following a 66-60 semifinal victory over third-seeded UMass Dartmouth.

The Anchorwomen will take on Rowan University in the First Round of the NCAA tournament Friday at 6 p.m. The winner will face either regional-host University of Scranton, which is ranked No. 3 in the WBCA Coaches’ Poll, or Saint Joseph’s College (Maine) in Saturday’s Second Round.
