The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will implement several traffic changes on I-95 and Route 10 between Warwick and Providence starting Thursday night, July 10. These adjustments are part of the ongoing I-95 15 Bridges project. While no highway lanes, ramps, or exits will be closed, travel lanes may be shifted and narrowed, with some local roads experiencing lane closures. RIDOT advises drivers to reduce speed and exercise caution in work zones.

On July 10, at Elmwood Avenue under the Route 10 overpass in Providence, all lanes will be narrowed, and one southbound lane on Elmwood Avenue will close. The northbound sidewalk will also close, but pedestrian access will remain on the southbound side.

On July 11, at Eddy Street in Providence near the Thurbers Avenue interchange (Exit 35), all lanes on I-95 North and South will shift left to create work zones for bridge reconstruction.

On July 25, Route 10 over I-95 in Cranston will see all lanes shifted to the southbound side of the Huntington Viaduct as part of a redesign eliminating this bridge from the interchange.

Additionally, Route 10 North at the I-95 North exit will have its travel lane shifted to allow phased reconstruction of the bridge over Elmwood Avenue. This shift is expected to last until year-end before further adjustments extend through 2026.

The I-95 15 Bridges project aims to remove 15 bridges from Rhode Island’s list of poor condition structures along I-95 and Route 10. Nine bridges are structurally deficient; three rank among the state’s top five most traveled deficient bridges. The project includes redesigning the Huntington Viaduct interchange.

Further details can be found at www.ridot.net/The-I-95-15. Construction schedules may change due to various factors including weather conditions. The project is funded by RhodeWorks as part of RIDOT’s commitment to improving state infrastructure.
