Bodington strikes out a career-high 12 in the road win against URI

Bryant University Athletics recently issued the following announcement.

Jocelyn Bodington of the Bryant University softball team struck out a career-high 12 batters while pitching a complete game in the 4-2 road victory against the University of Rhode Island.

Alexis Clancy hit a solo home run in the top of the third inning.

"Great day today, we did a lot of good things on offense, but I am super proud of Jocelyn. Being a Rhode Island kid to come through and pitch the best game of her career was great to see".

  • Bodington struck out the game's final two batters to secure the victory.
How it Happened 

  • In the bottom of the first inning, URI scored the first run of the game on an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Carlyn Hernandez hit a leadoff single, followed by a double to right field from Aleix Hudson. Hailey Aspinwall, Jenna Gardner, and Abby Trimble were all walked in the top of the second inning to earn a 2-1 lead.
  • Clancy launched a solo home run to deep center field, extending the Bulldog lead to two (3-1) during the top of the third inning.
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Rams scored their final run of the game on a sacrifice fly to right field (3-2).
  • The Black and Gold tallied an insurance run on a sacrifice fly courtesy of Gardner in the top of the sixth inning (4-2).

  • Bodington went seven innings, giving up six hits and striking out 12.
  • Gardner recorded one hit and two RBIs.
  • Clancy tallied a solo home run.
  • Trimble posted one hit and one RBI.
