Women’s Track & Field Athletes of the Week: May 10, 2022

Little East Conference recently issued the following announcement.

Field Athlete of the Week

Chelsea Yang (Warwick, R.I.) - Senior - Rhode Island College

Yang was named the LEC Field Athlete of the Week after winning the hammer throw with a toss of 54.10 meters at the New England Division III Championships. She is now a three-time New England Champion in the event, having previously taken first place in 2018 and 2019.

Track Athlete of the Week

Trinity Hayes (Providence, R.I.) - Senior - Rhode Island College

Hayes was named the LEC Track Athlete of the Week after earning All-New England honors in three sprint events, as she finished first in the 400 (57.22), fourth in the 200 (24.90) and seventh in the 100 (12.73) at the New England Division III Championships. Her 200 and 400 times is 32nd in NCAA Division III this season.

Rookie Field Athlete of the Week

Hayley Chartier (North Scituate, R.I.) - Freshman - Rhode Island College

Chartier was named the LEC Rookie Field Athlete of the Week after placing fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 49.26 meters at the New England Division III Championships.

Rookie Track Athlete of the Week

Jaiden Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) - Senior - UMass Dartmouth

Andrews, who is in her first collegiate season, was named LEC Rookie Track Athlete of the Week after placing sixth in the 100-meter hurdles at the New England Division III Championship with a time of 15.09 seconds.

Relay of the Week

Eastern Connecticut 4x800

The Warriors’ 4x800 relay comprised of sophomore Elisabeth Rodil and three newcomers: sophomore Carly Alston and first-year students Iris Bazinet and Alison LeClerc, placed seventh at the New England Division III Championships with a time of 10:08.70. They trimmed 17 seconds off their LEC title winning time from the week prior.
