The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Rhode Island will take part in National Night Out events on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. The office will join law enforcement partners and community members at gatherings held in several cities and towns across the state.
“Each August this Office proudly joins in support of National Night Out, a great opportunity to for law enforcement and the community to gather together and to continue to foster good relationships,” said Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom. “We urge all Rhode Islanders to take the opportunity to share a few minutes with your local law enforcement agency at this year’s events.”
National Night Out is an annual event that aims to build partnerships between law enforcement agencies and local communities. According to organizers, millions participate each year in thousands of communities across the United States on the first Tuesday of August.
The program began in 1984 with funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance under the U.S. Department of Justice and is run by the National Association of Town Watch, a nonprofit organization.
Local police departments and volunteers coordinate these events, which include block parties, cookouts, festivals, parades, safety demonstrations, youth activities, and visits from emergency personnel. The purpose is to unite neighbors and encourage cooperation for safer communities.
