Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) may 11 cheered the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s new regulations on greenhouse gas pollution from coal and gas-fired power plants.

“Coal and gas-fired power plants have been given a free pass to pollute for too long, and I’m very pleased to see the EPA take this strong stand today.  EPA’s proposal will cut down on the emissions driving climate change and protect the public health, especially in downwind states like Rhode Island,” said Whitehouse, one of the Senate’s leading champions for fighting climate change.  “I urge the EPA to finalize the strongest version of these proposed standards as quickly as possible.  There’s no time to waste in the race to save our planet from climate catastrophe.”
