Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that a Providence man has been charged in Providence County Superior Court with multiple firearms, narcotics distribution, and domestic assault offenses following his arrest by the Providence Police on September 15, 2022.

On May 12, 2023, the Office of the Attorney General charged Jamon Brown (age 27), by way of criminal information, with one count of possession with intent to deliver fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine, two counts of possession of a firearm while possessing with intent to deliver a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted of a crime of violence, one count of possession of a ghost gun, one count of modification of a semi-automatic weapon, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence, and one count of domestic strangulation.

As alleged in the criminal information, at approximately 7:30 p.m. on September 15, 2022, Providence Police responded to a report of domestic violence at an apartment on Swan Street in Providence. Upon arrival, the victim told police that the defendant strangled and shot at her before she fled the scene on foot. Police took note of a visible bruise on the victim’s neck.

The victim further explained that the defendant was circling the neighborhood, looking for her, in a Silver GMC Terrain. Officers observed a vehicle that matched the description and license plate provided by the victim, performed a traffic stop on the vehicle at the intersection of Swan and Eddy Streets, and apprehended the defendant.

As further alleged, officers subsequently obtained a search warrant for the apartment and seized two pistols, a Polymer80 9mm ghost gun and a Smith & Wesson .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun, more than $3,000 in cash, quantities of narcotics, and drug paraphernalia. It is alleged that subsequent testing of the narcotics by the Rhode Island Department of Health Forensic Chemistry Lab confirmed the presence of fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine.

The defendant is scheduled for a pre-arraignment conference on July 31, 2023 in Providence County Superior Court.
