The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) has announced the opening of four state campgrounds for the season on Saturday, April 12. These campgrounds include Burlingame, Charlestown Breachway, Fishermen’s Memorial, and George Washington Memorial State Campgrounds. Their opening coincides with the spring school vacation and trout fishing season, providing families an opportunity to enjoy Rhode Island's outdoor attractions. East Beach State Campground will open later, on Saturday, May 24.

A new pre-check-in process is available for Fishermen’s Memorial, George Washington, and Burlingame State Campgrounds. This initiative, designed to reduce waiting times, allows campers to preregister online after booking through the Reserve America system. The process must be completed at least two days before arrival. Campers needing an additional car pass can select and pay for it up to a day before their scheduled arrival.

Fishermen’s Memorial State Campground is a popular choice in Rhode Island, offering a seaside village setting with amenities such as basketball, tennis, horseshoes, and a playground suitable for family activities. It hosts the RI Grown farmers market every Sunday from 8:30 AM to 12 PM, from May through October. The campground is conveniently located near several beaches and is just a mile away from the Block Island ferry dock.

DEM is seeking seasonal employees for various roles such as lifeguards, park rangers, visitor assistants, and natural resource operations staff to support the operation of state beaches, parks, and campgrounds during the busy summer months. The Division of Parks and Recreation, staffed by 52 full-time employees, relies heavily on seasonal workers. These roles offer the benefits of working outdoors, establishing professional connections, and serving the community. Interested candidates can apply through DEM's seasonal employment webpage.
